Unwind with these truly relaxing escapes

A relaxing holiday means different things depending on who you’re asking. So with that in mind, we’ve picked a variety of holidays to help you get away from it all.

Whether you want to get back to nature, soak up some culture, relax in a spa or on a beach – we've got a range of breaks that will sooth your mind and body.

Bahamas – the laid back break

The Bahamas is the ultimate place to rejuvenate your body, mind and soul. With stunning blue oceans, postcard-worthy sandy beaches and fascinating history, it’s no wonder why it’s the most popular Caribbean getaway. The ideal place for relaxation, the Bahamas offers world-class spa treatments, such as soothing herbal baths, massages and wellness activities.

Made up of around 700 islands, the Bahamas is perfect for island-hopping and discovering its many treasures, as well as being able to visit the famous swimming pigs on Pig Beach. Make sure to visit Eleuthera to lounge on beautiful pink beaches, or go cave and reef diving for an experience you won’t forget. The Devil’s Backbone is a jagged-edged reef, known as a snorkeller's paradise where you can see a plethora of marine life and dive into the history of shipwrecks.

Spoil yourself with exquisite Bahamian delicacies, such as the national food conch, which can be enjoyed steamed, deep-fried or raw. Soak up the sun next to the clearest waters in the world – it’s what dreams are made of!

Bay of Islands, New Zealand – the nature lover’s break

Bay of Islands, New Zealand

In the far north, above Auckland, lies the stunning subtropical region and the dazzlingly gorgeous Bay of Islands. This is a nature lover’s paradise. From land to sea, golden beaches to Maori cultural artefacts – it’s no wonder it’s one of the most prominent getaway destinations in New Zealand.

Take one of the many walking tracks and discover natural beauty such as Rainbow Falls in Kerikeri, or encounter the magnificent Kauri tree in the subtropical forests. If, like many of the locals, you feel more at home on the water, then you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to water activities. For a more relaxing vibe, jump on a sailing boat and soak up the sun while an experienced skipper guides you through the islands. See wildlife in abundance – including dolphin and whale watching at Piercy Island, and experience the marine world by taking a dive or snorkelling in the reefs. Enjoy plenty of fresh seafood and make sure to experience a relaxing massage at one of the many local spas.

Portugal – the yoga break

Sugar-soft sands, glassy waters and tumbling rocky coastline – welcome to Portugal. Surfers have been coming to this mediterranean country for a long time, the many fantastic surf spots have meant a lot of surf and yoga retreats have sprung up along the coastline.

From the Algarve to the most famous surf beach of Nazaré – these retreats offer water activities such as surfing and meditative yoga sessions on the beach or overlooking the sea. You don’t have to sign up for a whole week – many people combine a stay in a retreat with a visit to Lisbon or Faro.

The Riviera, France – the arty, slow paced break

The Riviera, France

Ever-popular the fragrant and alluring coastline of the South of France has been beguiling visitors for decades. From glitzy towns and exciting cities, to undulating red cliff coasts and velvet beaches there is no shortage of relaxing things to do here.

Visit the hilly region of Ramatuelle and wander the honey-hued sunny squares, lay on huge sandy beaches and pop into little art shops in sleepy towns. Or head to the Calanques National Park for turquoise inlets of water, craggy rocks topped with vibrant green – here you can hike, swim and canoe.

Walk the footsteps of Picasso and visit the museum dedicated to the artist in historic Antibes. Or head inland to Arles to see through the eyes of Vincent Van Gogh. Visit this region off peak and you won't be fighting against crowds and heat.

Indonesia – the explorer’s break

Indonesia boasts many luxury spa retreats, idyllic sandy beaches, stunning national parks and jungles – so what’s not to like? Popular Bali is well known for its historic temples and relaxing health resorts, but why not venture somewhere more low-profile like Lombok? Here you can visit the famous Tangsi ‘Pink’ Beach decorated in blush corals or travel to the Gili islands, surrounded by fine sand and rich tropical marine life.

Get away from the bustle of city life by visiting the natural paradise of the Raja Ampat islands. Trek through dense jungles, dive with magnificent marine life and discover hidden lagoons – this is the closest it comes to true beauty.

Tenerife – the family break

Tenerife is the perfect place for a relaxing family holiday, well known as the largest of Spain’s Canary Islands and for its wonderful weather all year round.

North Tenerife is home to subtropical and botanical gardens as well as historical towns. Head to Garachico – a beautiful picturesque town – for a perfect, peaceful day trip. With half of the town destroyed in a volcanic eruption in 1706, you can hike the lava paths as well as swim in rock pools, providing a truly unique experience. Tenerife boasts some stunning botanical gardens, including one in Puerto de la Cruz, where you and the family can discover paradise. Pack a picnic and spend the day entranced by natural beauty as you wander around the gardens.

If that’s not enough, then head to the Southern coast where you can go whale and dolphin watching or visit the world famous water park, Siam Park, for fun for all the family.
